Coolmelagh - Gibbet Hill Loop

Coolmelagh Bunbrody Wexford Republic of Ireland

About this listing

Gibbet Hill Loop walk follows forest roads on a long steady climb up to Gibbet Hill which features masts on top and the Marian Cross before looping back, with good views of the surrounding countryside of Wexford, Wicklow, Carlow and Mount Leinster. This walk takes you through pine and beech forests up to the summit of Gibbet Hill. A number of places on this hill you\'ll notice some fine stone walls made out of flattish pieces of rock. All kinds of native wildlife, such as Sika deer, Irish hare, fox, badger, Peregrine falcon and hen harrier raven. In the eighteenth century there was a slate quarry on the hill. In early May expect to see a carpet of bluebells, thriving quietly away beneath the beech trees. The Prospect Loop and the Gibbet Hill walk are part of the overall Coolmelagh Loop walk. See Coolmelagh Map - re the three walks route.
